What is WordPress?

WordPress is a simple administrative area which allows you to manage the content on your website at any time. It is actually a Content Management System (CMS). A CMS is computer software that allows publishing, editing and organizing content such as text, photos, video from an administrative screen.

Therefore, WordPress allows you to have full control over your website’s content without having to look at or deal with any of the code. You will simply be supplied with a username and password to login to the WordPress administrative screen which is connected to your website. From there you’ll be able to view all of the content on your website and make updates, amendments and add new content.

WordPress is extremely flexible and can be used for managing any kind of website from a small blog to a full online store. The entire lancwebdev.com website has been built using WordPress and also have all of the websites in our portfolio.

WordPress Requirements

Hosting Plan & Domain Name

You will need to purchase a hosting plan in order for us to create a WordPress website. A website host or server is a space on the internet which will contain your website’s files and content, thus making your website visible to the public. You will also need to purchase a domain name. Each website has a unique domain name to identify it from the rest. For example, the domain name of this website is www.lancwebdev.com. Domain names are also sometimes called ‘web addresses’ or ‘URLs’.

Please refer to our article on ‘Understanding Website Hosting and Domain Names’ for further information and for purchasing options. And if you already have a website but are unsure who is hosting it please read our article ‘Who is hosting my website?’.
